Are you ready for GirlGov 2016?

Applications are NOW available for GirlGov 2016. This year’s program kicks off with a trip to Harrisburg June 12th thru June 16th!

This program is open to all girls entering 9th-12th grade in the Fall of 2016 who live in Southwest PA and there is no fee to participate. Click here for more information and to apply by April 29, 2016.

Participants will visit the State Capitol and learn first-hand how government works – directly from the legislators, staff, and others who work in state government, including women who help run the state!

In addition to the Harrisburg trip, this year-round program will allow girls to learn about government, advocacy, philanthropy, community involvement, women’s history, and leadership.

Then, participants will meet monthly starting in September, to discuss and plan a project to create change collectively and individually in their own communities.
Since 2009, GirlGov girls have:

  • Traveled to Harrisburg annually to shadow state legislators and to advocate for policy changes to improve the lives of women and girls in their own communities – and across the state;
  • Advocated for Sarah’s Bill (written by a GirlGov participant, to institute a Restraining Order law in PA – one of only 12 states that did not offer such protections);
  • Met with and learned from local, state, and national women in political careers;
  • Organized Pittsburgh’s first International Day of the Girl Celebration in 2013 (and are currently planning Pittsburgh’s 2015 Celebration);
  • Attended an invitation-only mentoring luncheon at the White House;
  • Raised local awareness of the conflict in Syria;
  • and much more.

The program is open to all girls entering 9th-12th grade in the Fall of 2016 who live in Southwest Pennsylvania. There is NO fee to participate!
