National Honors Society

The National Honors Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization made to recognize outstanding above average high school students above the requirements of high honor roll. NHS is for students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

In March they start recruiting certain students with applications. After they apply, and the NHS board processes them, they are either accepted into NHS or denied. In late April, they have an elaborate ceremony to honor members, seniors, and the new inductees. For new members that want to apply you fill out the application and you need to have great grades, be involved in the school, be a leader within the school, and be a member of your community with 10+ hours of volunteer work.

They have a ceremony that includes speeches on the four pillars of NHS, a candle ceremony for new inductees, the sponsorship walk down and recognizing seniors.

Normally they put together activities that benefit other people or organizations. Last year they did Christmas cards and gifts for the veterans. They also host blood drives through out the year for students.

NHS is very selective and not just anyone can get accepted.
